Why does Red have only one allele?

Only amino acids 10 and 11 have an effect on the color.  For example, taking a yellow protein and changing #10 from Trp to Gln deactivates the protein.

Changing other amino acids (like 1 or 13) has no effect on the color.

Hypothesis: Changing amino acid #13 from Gln (which is hydrophilic) to a hydrophobic amino acid will deactivate it and therefore can have an effect on the color of the flower.

When we changed amino acid Cys, amino acid 11 to Trp the color orange arose

The 10th and 11th amino acid relationship controls the color of the protein. For black it is the 9th, 10th, and 11th amino acids with Phe, Tyr, and Trp in that order only.

We found a purple colored protein by altering the 9th amino acid into Phe from the blue colored protein.
